IB Diploma fast replacing CBSE AND ISC+2

For ages now most Indians have after finishing their 10h grade in a state syllabus school or even one with CBSE or ICSE go on to do their +2 in different colleges. But in recent times a different trend has been seen among students in most metros. International Schools have seen everywhere. And with cut-throat competition all over the world people have started joining the International Baccalaureate(IB) Diploma programme as a better alternative to the State Board or even ISC or CBSE.

International Baccalaureate(IB) is a 50 year old Primary and Secondary Education System which is renowned world over and aims to make it’s students think critically and independently. It is believed to be the best choice for a student who wishes to eventually wants to study or move abroad as it takes a more international approach in its syllabus as compared to Indian Boards and gives a brief as to how Western Universities and Colleges work.

They have 4 programmes to offer ranging from the Primary Years Programme for kids aged 3 to 12 to a Career Related Programme for students aged 16 to 19. Their Diploma Programme was the first offered almost 50 years ago and is still their most popular one.

So the Diploma Programme can be taken as soon as you’re done with your 10 grade Certificate examination. It is recognized by the Government of India to be on par with a +2 certificate. The curriculum is known the bring the best out of your child and to think out of the box. It teaches extensively in 6 core subjects giving every student an all round learning experience as compared to ICSE or CBSE which teach you specifically in either Science, Humanities or Commerce. But the huge costs of studying in an Institution offering this programme remains the biggest deterrent at this point.

The Curriculum

The Diploma Curriculum is divided into the DP core and six subject groups. The DP Core remains compulsory for all students while you have choice of subjects in the 6 subjects groups.

DP Core

  • The Extended Essay: which is an independent, self-directed piece of research, finishing with a 4,000-word paper.
  • Creativity,Activity and Service: in which students complete a project related to those three concepts.

Subject Groups

There are 6 subject groups with different courses available in each subject group. It is compulsory to take at least one course from each subject groups, except the arts. Almost all courses are available in two levels.Higher level and standard level. A student must take a minimum of 3 courses in higher level, but not more than four.
