NEET 2018 – All you need to know

National Eligibility cum Entrance Test( NEET ) is an annual entrance exam conducted by Central Board of Secondary Education in India for admissions to MBBS/BDS Courses in India offered by Medical/Dental Colleges approved by the Medical Council of India/Dental Council of India under the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Government of India except for the institutions established through an Act of Parliament.

 

This year, NEET 2018 will be held on the 6th, of May,2018 in centres all around the country. NEET is the official entrance exam for all medical and dental colleges in the country except AIIMS and JIPMER who have a seperate entrance exam. From this year onwards admissions to all Ayurveda, Yoga and Naturopathy, Unani, Siddha and Homoeopathy courses across all states will be through NEET. NEET is considered one of the hardest entrance exams to crack in the world with just around 50,000 students eventually getting a medical seat out of almost 18 lakhs that wrote it during NEET 2017.

Pattern

NEET 2018 is a three hour long objective type paper. Each question will have four options to choose from. Each right answer will award four marks to the student and each wrong answer will subtract one mark from the student. The questions are based on three subjects Chemistry,Physics and Biology(Botany and Zoology). The division of marks are as follows:

 

Chemistry- 45 marks

Physics- 45 marks

Biology- 90 marks

 

The paper will be available in 10 different languages in different states although Hindi and English will be available in all centres.

 

Eligibility

Students attempting the exam must be a minimum of 17 years of aga t the time of admission or must turn 17 by December 31st this year in order to be eligible to write NEET 2018.

 

An upper age limit of 25 years on the exam day has been set. Although a relaxation of 5 years has been set for students under the SC/ST/OBC category.

 

A maximum of three attempts are allowed per aspirant to write the NEET exam.

 

Students from the states of Andhra Pradesh, Telangana and J & K are not eligible for 15% all India quota seats as these states had opted out of All India Scheme since its inception.

 

Counselling

NEET UG online counselling  for the 15% All-India Quota would be conducted by the Medical Counselling Committee of the Directorate General of Health Services.

For State medical colleges and institutions students must await instructions from their respective governments.

 

Here’s the Counselling Schedule for the All-India quota:
