This Polytechnic is a Government institution situated in Bondel, Mangalore and it was established in the year 1970.The institution is located in a sprawling campus of 12.16 acres.
At present, the Polytechnic is wholly run by the Government of Karnataka and comes under the Directorate of Technical Education, Bangalore. This is a highly reputed institution and is a recipient of various projects like Direct Central Assistance Scheme of Government of India / World Bank Aid for the development activities / State Government Finances / MODROBS from AICTE / Community development through Polytechnics / up gradation of existing Polytechnics Scheme / Women’s Hostel from MHRD / CCTEK/PWD Scheme etc.
This institution has a sanctioned intake of 263 students. Many of our passed-out students are well placed in different Central /State Government Departments, Multinational Companies, Public/Private Sector industries, etc. Academic excellence in diploma programs has made this Polytechnic as one of the most sought-after institutions in Karnataka.
The Government Polytechnic for Women, Bondel, Mangalore is started in 1970, in the campus of Karnataka Govt. Polytechnic, (KPT) Kadri Hills, Mangalore. The new building and hostel of the Polytechnic were constructed and completed in 1982 at Bondel, Mangalore. Since 1982, the institution which comes under the administrative control of Department of Technical Education has been recognized by All India Council of Technical Education (AICTE), New Delhi. It is renowned institution located in Bondel, Airport road, Mangalore offering five diploma courses.

Government Polytechnic For Women, Mangalore
Library
We have a full-fledged library comprising of more than 10,000 books related to general and technical education for our students. Students are provided with to library cards to borrow books. Students belonging to SC, ST category get the benefit of borrowing additional books. In addition to technical and non-technical books, a good number of magazines and journals are also available. Provision for reading inside the library is provided for the students to sit comfortably and study.
Laboratory
WPT has 11 laboratories set up for all branches to fulfill the needs of practically oriented diploma technical education. All laboratories are equipped with latest tools and materials to provide the practical knowledge with the latest technology for students.
Hostel
Our polytechnic offers hostel facilities for the students coming from far places. The hostel is on the college campus. The hostel is controlled by a warden, who is a full-time lecturer of our polytechnic. The warden is guided by our principal. The admission is given to any regular student of the polytechnic. Preference is given to those who come from long distance.
Sports & Games
Our institute offers excellent opportunities for sports and games. There is spacious ground used for athletics and games. Sports room is available for playing table tennis and facilities are provided for indoor games. Our polytechnic participates in the state level inter polytechnic sports meet and has excelled consistently
NSS
The NSS is a scheme sponsored by the Govt. of India, implemented in this polytechnic through Director of Technical Education, Bangalore during 1999-2000 with an intention to involve the students in the service of the community and thus canalize their energy in the creative and constructive activities.
CDTP
Objectives of Community Development Through Polytechnic
- To provide skill development training in various trades/jobs.
- To disseminate appropriate technologies for productivity enhancement.
- To provide technical and support services to rural masses.
- To create awareness among the target groups about health, social, education and financial and contemporary issues of importance.
PERSON WITH DISABILITY SCHEME
MHRD has selected our institute as a center to introduce its PWD scheme. In this scheme, persons with different disabilities can take training so that they can start their own work on their own without any help. Now a days, the students with disabilities are known as special students.
ALUMNI ASSOCIATION
We, the ex-students of the Government Polytechnic for Women, Mangalore have resolved to form ourselves into a registered association, so as to bring together all the alumni of Government Women’s Polytechnic, Mangalore and accordingly have resolved to register our association and have it called as Government Polytechnic for Women, Mangalore Alumni Association. Accordingly, we do hereby, adopt, enact and give ourselves this constitution.
CCTEK
Centre for Continuing Technical Education, Karnataka (CCTEK)
Canada India Institutional Cooperation Project (CIICP), a bilateral project between Govt. of Canada and Govt. of India, funded by Canadian Development Agency (CIDA) started at WPT. The project was designed to contribute to human resource development in polytechnics to meet the development needs of India.
EDUSAT
Edusat was started on 07/10/2013. From then onwards various programs was given through Edusat programs.
It includes:
- subject related topics were given by various resource persons
- Live interactive program by Secretary and his team for smooth conduction of exams, bring institution through NSS and data collection
