There are numerous courses after 10th standard that can be taken up. 10th standard is the turning point of any student’s life. The next step could be crucial in deciding the future of the child. +2(PUC/12 Grade)

This is the most common course taken after 10th grade. You can continue studying  11th and 12th grade which is offered by the Central Board of Secondary Education(CBSE), Council for Indian School Certificate Examination(CISCE) and all State Education Boards in the country.

Most of these boards offer the courses in three major streams: Commerce,Science and Arts/Humanities. This gives you plenty of options to choose from as these three streams cover a wide host of areas and career options.

 

  • Commerce

Commerce deals with subjects such as Economics and Accounts and gives you knowledge and the require skills to run a company,manage your accounts,market your product,how to maximize your profits etc, Basically anything to do with a business and money. Diploma

Diploma courses are heavily job oriented. They train you to do a specific job or profession in short span of time as opposed to studying an entire stream and choosing a career path later.

Many students opt for Diploma courses although it’s not the most popular. It is also heavily skilled based and hence requires precision and concentration. They are usually range from 6 months to 3 years. There are roughly two kinds of Diploma Courses: Technical Diploma Courses and Non technical Diploma Courses.

 

  • Technical Diploma

Technical Diploma courses usually deal with courses on engineering and technology. The careers are not usually very high paying but it is a boon for what is arguably India’s biggest strength: it’s manpower. Diplomas help increase the number of skilled workers in the country. There are a wide range of courses in engineering ranging from mechanical to civil to computer science to automobile to even marine. There are also other courses in fabrication technology, textile technology,leather technology etc. Most Technical Diplomas are 3 year courses and at completion immediately moving to a job ib s a good possibility and if not you can automatically join 2nd year B.Tech.

 

  • Non-Technical Diploma

Non Technical Diploma deals with skills which require precision and training but not necessarily technical. Non technical Diplomas too produce a huge amount of skilled workers who can be easily employed. There is a wide arena of choices to choose from which include textile manufacturing, dress designing,animation etc. The wide range of options increases if done after 12th standard which would then open options such as fashion designing,photography and graphics. Non technical diploma courses range from 6 months to 3 years and will immediately ready you for a job.

 

Industrial Training Institute

An even more shorter and direct hands-on practical course as compared to diplomas would be an ITI course. An ITI course also trains yo specifically in one skill but is slightly more specific to the skill than a diploma. It is a shorter course which goes on for a maximum of one year. This is the perfect job for people who cannot afford longer education and also people who require a skilled job fast due to various reasons. In a year you will be ready for your job. It is not as lucrative as a Diploma but it does have its advantages. You cannot join mid way through engineering like you can through a diploma. But it does cover a large amount of skill sets and can be done as a backup too.Courses are available in welding, die-making, surveyor, photography etc. A few courses do have an entrance exam to get a seat in the course. After completion of the course you become certified in that particular skill. You can either work for companies or even work on your own as a skilled worker. You can pursue higher education eventually if you wish to do so.

 

Online Certificate Courses

Online certificate courses have over the last few years gained immense popularity. Now from the comfort of your home you can take certified training on literally any subject or interest you might have ranging from stand up comedy to how to develop an app to learning a foreign language. Many of these courses don’t have a educational requirement and can be learnt at your speed and at timings you prefer. These courses can be done separately while pursuing courses in other educational institutes too and you can take as many courses as you want at the same time. They do have from some top universities like Columbia University, Cambridge University and Yale. They also have courses from some of the best companies in the world such as Google and Microsoft. They presently have 12 million registered learners of around 1000 courses in over 195 countries.

eDX was a joint initiative by two top Universities, Massachusetts Institute of Technology(MIT) and Harvard University to use the online space to train people of various skills. It like most other online certificate course services covers almost all major topics from science, research, humanities, data and statistics etc. One interesting thing about this service is other than giving courses it also conducts research into learning on how people use their platform. A few courses are free although most of them require payment. It has courses from top institutes like The Hong Kong University of Polytechnic,Harvard University, Massachusetts Institute of Technology and The University of British Columbia.
