DS Dinakar National Polytechnic, Shimoga is a premier institute in Shimoga Dist. which provides high-quality training to students and prepares them as a good technician to suit the needs of industry services or self-employment, be innovative and succeed as good citizens.
The college has popularly known as D.S.D.N.P which is approved by AICTE and affiliated to Directorate Technical Education (D.T.E), Government of Karnataka.

Library and Information Centre
Library is our great possession.  We have well furnished, sophisticated, well automated library.   To fulfill the vision and Mission of our institution, beautiful library  was established with initial collection of 300 books and now it is rich with more than 6.568 and unique titles of 545. To broaden and enrich the  students’ quality in gaining relevant knowledge, our library is providing more than 20 regional and national journals in engineering related areas.  Students can lend three books for 21 days. Besides we have a digital library facility, students can access here Project Reports, Question Papers, Audio and Video lectures which is related to subject and english communication etc.  To support in gaining specific services in the library, we have 03 different levels of trained and interested staff.
Besides we have a library website, you can access here wide variety of data like question papers, Syllabus, E-Journals, Model Project Reports and other form of information.

Improvement in Academic Work
With the introduction of semester Scheme, there is continuous evaluation of students throughout the semester.  This has been achieved by way internal assessment at regular intervals, which builds up regular study habits in students and helps in evaluating, the students learning.  It helps to find out potentialities of individual students interest, needs and aptitudes.

Test and assignments

• Three internal tests are conducted in each semester in all subjects.
• Subject notes, lab records, workshop diaries, drawing files etc., are inspected regularly by the concerned staff as a part of IA Marks.
• Internal assessment marks are added to the Final Exam marks in each subject.  These marks help in improving the percentage of marks in each subject.

• Extra care is given to students for regional and non-English medium schools.
• A sense of interest and learning is instilled in the young minds of schools.
• Supervised study is conducted for students by respective department staff during free hours for improving academic excellence.
• Students are exposed to the latest technology – VLSI Design, PLC, Microcontroller, Multimedia designing, ASP.net and VB. net.

Syllabus

The syllabus for the Diploma in Engineering Courses has been prepared and constantly updated by the Department of Technical Education, Government of Karnataka and upgraded from time to time to provide state-of-art technical knowledge in all aspects of Engineering catering to current industry needs.
Theory and practical subjects will enable student to develop written and oral communication skills as well as technical skills in specific areas of planning, equipment-design and development, testing and inspection, maintenance, repair and servicing of machinery/systems.

Cultural Achievement

Students have participated in State Level Inter Collegiate/Polytechnic cultural programmes and have won the Prizes, Students are encouraged to participate in cultural activities which are held in different parts of the state

Sports Achievements

Students have won prizes at annual state level inter collegiate meets held at different polytechnic colleges every year.

Academic/Placement Achievements

• Students are encouraged to participate in State Level Project Exhibition every year, Students of our college have won prizes in these events.
• Students are enrolled for IETE students forum.
• Students are rewarded for their academic performance in each semester.
• Final year students have got placements in reputed companies (Ramky Constructions, IVRCL, Aarbee Structures, TCS, Techpole and KMC Etc.,
• Campus interviews are arranged and students are benefiting by these interviews.
