The Government Polytechnic, Hangal. Dist: Haveri had been established by Government of Karnataka in the year 2007-08 vide GO No:ED 123: YOYOKA/2007 Dated: 03-05-2007 to meet the needs of meritorious rural students. This institution is imparting quality technical education to meritorious rural youth. This polytechnic exploits the rural talents through technical education and need-based training programmes.
Our institution is located in Hangal Taluk of Haveri district. Hangal is a small town with a population of 26,000. The main occupation of people is agriculture. The main crops cultivated are Maize, Jowar, Paddy, Ragi, Chilly and Sugarcane are the main crops.
We are proud to say our college is situated at Hangal and this place is believed to be Viratanagar of Mahabharata, the Pandavas took shelter here in the disguise to undergo the Ajnatavasa(unnoticed) for a year. It is ancient city ruled by Hoysala kings and built famous temples like Tarakeswara temple complex, Billeswara, etc and subsequently destroyed by the foreign invaders. An ASI recognized the place and tourist place visited by locals, neighboring places including foreigners.
The MHRD, New Delhi has sanctioned administrative approval to start Community Development through Polytechnic scheme in 2009-10 The institution has well-established building and workshop in a sprawling area of 5.37 acres. It has fully equipped laboratories in all the departments.
Three batches of students have passed out from this institution to date. Approximately 125 students are admitted to reputed Engineering colleges for their higher education through lateral entry. They are placed at top ranks in DCET conducted by KEA Bangalore.
