The Government Polytechnic, Joida is started in the year 2008 by Department of Technical Education, Karnataka government. The college started with four courses which includes Computer Science & Engineering, Electronics & Communication Engineering, Mechanical Engineering and Civil Engineering. Initially, the college was running its classes in some of the rented buildings in Joida. The college shifted to a new building in Aug 2012. The new building was inaugurated by then higher education minister Sri. C.T Ravi. The College is providing good and valuable education for the students. The college started in this remote and forest area with the interest of uplifting the poor and backward area students.

Joida is a small town in the Western Ghats of Karnataka, India. In Joida, 90% of the area is covered by forest. The town is the headquarters of the eponymous taluk, lying in the Uttara Kannada district. Located close to Ambikanagar, Joida is also called Supa by locals. KPCL maintains the Supa Dam, which straddles the Kali River nearby. Joida is 22 km from Dandeli. Konkani is spoken as a local language in Joida. Kannada, is the state language is also implemented so spoken (by 35% of the population). Marathi is widely understood in Joida due to the prevalence of Marathi literature and arts in the area. Urdu and English are also used in social communication.
