Government Polytechnic for Women, Vidyanagar, Hubli, is a premier diploma institution established in the year 1963, by the Government of Karnataka, with the visionary outlook towards women’s development & empowerment. Government Polytechnic for Women has 5 branches.
The institution has a very good infrastructure, well-equipped labs & experienced and dedicated staff. Government Polytechnic for Women, Hubli, has extended its ken to larger societal benefits through continuing education, community projects, non-formal education, etc. Recognizing its contribution and significance, the Government of India & Government of Karnataka have sanctioned many projects to develop human resources. The Community Polytechnic Scheme (CPS), erstwhile CIICP, etc. are in this direction. The institution has hosted the State Level Inter Polytechnic Sports meet in the past. The institution’s staff and students are very actively involved in Academic, Co-curricular and extracurricular activities. Our staff members have participated in many national and state level seminars, conferences and symposia. The institution has a well-equipped library with a sufficient number of books, spacious rooms & other infrastructures like internet connectivity, communications facilities, etc. Our students and staff have brought laurels to the institution by bagging many state and national levels awards. Our students have bagged the “Sri M V Inter-Polytechnic Debate Competition” in the year 2000, the Best Project at “Do it Yourself” exhibition in the year 2004, etc. Our Institution has hosted three short-term training programs sponsored by AICTE – ISTE, New Delhi. Recognizing the importance, AICTE has sponsored many projects to our institution. Our institution has embarked on developing total quality technical professionals. Our institution was given accreditation status by National Board of Accreditation, New Delhi for four branches on 16-03-2007. The accreditation was achieved under the dynamic leadership of our former Principal Shri H U Talawar and also with the dedication of all the faculty and staff of this institution. Presently Shri H U Talawar is heading the Department of Technical Education as the  Director. At present, the principal of this institution is Shri G M Goni.

Government Polytechnic for Women, Hubli

1. CDTP

The Community Development through Polytechnic Scheme was sanctioned during the year 2009-2010 & it carries out the activities as per Operational Plan of respective years. The areas in which the actives are classified were as follow:

• Need Assessment Surveys
• Skill Development Training Programs
• Disseminate and Application of Appropriate Technology
• Technical and Support Services
• Awareness programs.

More than 75% of India’s population depends on agriculture. But present technical education cares to the needs of organized sectors. The main the community Polytechnic Scheme is introduced to rural areas with the following strategies:

• Training to unemployed rural youth for self-employed
• Demonstrating the farm equipment to the farmers
• Protecting the use of non-conventional energy equipment villages
• Conducting various programmer on Adult Education, Child Care, Sanitation, Health, etc.

2. CCTK

The National Policy on Education 1986 dealing with technical and management education states “Continuing Education covering Established as well as Emerging Technologies, will be promoted.
Activities which help people improve their abilities, skills and competence, professional as well as vocational, thus facility entry into specialized areas and/or allow personal development and satisfaction ” -is continuing education.
As the store of human knowledge continues to grow in size and complexity and to be updated at even faster pace, people the world over, need to engage in structured and systematic learning throughout their lives.
World declaration on higher education for the 21st century as UNESCO document recommends opening colleges to adult learners, transformation or post-secondary institution into lifelong learning institutions.
There is great demand in the market for short term and long term continuing education courses leading to skill and knowledge development providing an opportunity for enhanced employment.
At present some private educational organizations are conducting much need-based continuing technical education programs in the field of computers, information technology and other areas. There is no regulatory mechanism to ensure proper quality and cost of such courses. The proposed center will ensure the conduct of need-based programs at a reasonable cost.
The proposed center is registered as a society and will function as an autonomous body. The governing body of the society will have as its chairman, the minister for higher education and secretary higher education as vice chairman. Officer of the technical education department and representatives from industry and technological university will be other members of the governing body. The day to day functioning of this center would be rested in an executive committee whose rights, powers and functions have all been listed in the proposal.
The target group who will be benefited from the continuing education programs would be teachers, Govt. servants, industrial and agricultural workers, physically handicapped, socially backward people, women etc.,.
